The Duke of Cumberland is located in the heart of Whitstable, perfectly placed for you to enjoy all the attractions the coastal town has to offer. Whitstable is a town positioned on the North Coast on Kent where the Swale Estuary and Greater Thames Estuary converge. It is five miles north of Canterbury and two miles west of Herne Bay. Famous for its seafood, the reinvented Oyster Rocks Festival in September is a highlight of the year. The two- day Regatta in August also provides endless enjoyment for everyone including music, firework displays and seaborne events.
The Harbour of Whitstable was built in 1832 and is a few minutes’ walk from the Duke of Cumberland. The harbour today remains extremely important to Whitstable’s heritage and also hosts an exciting fish market. Established in 1963, Whitstable is the home for one of the first inshore lifeboat stations. The crew still operates today with a Lewisco; a B class Atlantic 85 lifeboat, which needs to be carriage launched from the Beach. Come and see where the action happens.
Home to the Invicta Steam Train and diving gear from the 1800s, along with brilliant annual exhibitions, come and explore local history and heritage.
Located just outside Whitstable town, this picturesque Castle and grounds are perfect for exploring local history with afternoon tea! A must- see if you are in town.
Just a 10 minute drive from Whitstable, this old- fashioned shingle beach with wooden groynes and a colourful array of beach huts makes for a lovely day out. The sea is excellent for paddling and rock pooling and provides fun for all the family. Feeling adventurous? Why not walk along the promenade for 30 minutes from Whitstable to Tankerton Beach and follow the glorious Kent coastline. Enjoy delicious fish and chips at the Marine Hotel which has the perfect view looking out to sea.
A 20 minute drive from Whitstable, the town is home to a colourful and bustling pier making for the perfect day out. There are delicious food outlets, old fashioned fairground horses, and much more to make your visit extra fun. For those who just can’t keep still, why not walk from Whitstable to Herne Bay in under two hours along the promenade? Enjoy a refreshing drink in the remarkable and uniquely preserved Prince of Wales pub.

Explore this beautifully quaint town and enjoy a long, delicious lunch at the Sun Inn, the Anchor or the Bear in the market place. Walk down to Standard Quay to explore local produce and great views of the Creek.
Only a 20 minute drive from Whitstable, a visit to Canterbury should be on your to do list. Rich in history, heritage and exquisite architecture; explore the world- famous Canterbury Cathedral and visit the tomb of Thomas Beckett, walk along the river Stour, enjoy the exceptional retail offer on the high street and round off your visit with a trip to one of the oldest pubs in the country; the Parrot where you can enjoy fantastic pub food and drink. Or enjoy the quaint courtyard garden of the Shakespeare located near the Cathedral.
